This morning I woke up remembering a dream I had last night that surfaced an important lesson. I dreamt that I was about to get married- all my community and friends were there and I was wearing a beautiful gown. I had planned the whole shindig and was ready to go...but my groom was nowhere to be found! And when he arrived, he was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. Dumbfounded, he had no clue what was going on! In my excitement to get married, WE had never discussed any details! In fact, I had never asked him to marry me or vice versa. In the dream we embraced and then I said 'Sorry, never mind everyone.' LOL!
I'm sharing this story to raise the idea of reaching your goals. Sometimes in our planning for the big day, or the dream business or whatever the major goal is to you, we miss critical steps. Often we want to make it big, but the small things we do everyday is what is necessary to make it big. For example, I'm a part of an organization that works to help grow leadership within the community through a transformational conversation model. When folks are sitting in the circle, sometimes excitement grows when a breakthrough in understanding seems to happen on a particular issue. Individuals get pumped up on an idea to go out and do something to make a difference! And they want to do it now! However, sometimes there's way more to understand, especially if the action requires everyone in the group to be on the same page to make a difference in the community. That's when we have to remind ourselves that sometimes the "action" is the conversation itself. The big dream won't be realized if the foundation that the dream rests on is weak or is incomplete. Making sure that all your i's are dotted and t's are crossed and then leaping with faith is key! Stepping out on faith always has a component of work that's needed- it's figuring out what that work is that will get you to where you want and need to be. It's the million little things you do everyday consistently that prepares you for the opportunity of growth when it comes around.
What critical steps are you taking to reach your big dream?
